Austin Majors‘ cause of death has been revealed.

The former actor was staying at a homeless housing facility in Los Angeles when he died in Februaryearlier this year at the age of 27.

He was best known for his seven-season run as the young son of star Dennis Franz’s Detective Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue.

 

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, he died from an accidental fentanyl overdose. His death was listed as fentanyl toxicity and manner of death as accidental, according to the report released Tuesday (August 8), via Deadline.

Austin‘s family issued a statement at the time of his death: “[He] was a loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing.”

They added, “Austin’s younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austinwere growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with “Kids With a Cause”, and backpacking together. Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever.”
