DJ Casper, whose birth name was Willie Perry Jr., has sadly died at the age of 58.

The DJ was best known for creating the “Cha Cha Slide,” which he made in 1998 as a song for the aerobics class that his nephew taught at the time. By 2004, the song had become an international hit and you’ve most likely danced to it at a wedding, Bar Mitzvah, or other function.

Casper‘s wife Kim confirmed to ABCthat he passed away after a seven-year battle with cancer.

Casper was a fun-loving, giving person,” she said in a statement. “He was a genuine, family oriented man. He loved Chicago with all his heart. He will be greatly missed.”

Casper talked about his cancer battle in an interview back in May.

“I used to weigh 236 pounds, and I think I’m about 60 pounds less,” Casper said. “If you know me, you know I’m not going to stop. I’m going to continue to go. I’m going to continue to go until I can’t go.”

We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to Casper‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
