It
was a good day for Southaven Mayor Greg Davis. Judge Dewayne Thomas handed down
a ruling in Hinds County Court after the state tried to garnish the Mayor's
paycheck.
According
to Davis' attorney Steve Farese, Judge Thomas issued an order granting a temporary
Injunction. It means the Mayor continues to get paid. The judge ruled that Code
7743, the very code that State Auditor Stacey Pickering used to try to seize
the Mayor's pay, does not apply in this case.
Farese
said, "We will continue our negotiations with the state, and if that can't
be reached, we will have a hearing to determine if he actually owes them money
or not."
Mayor
Davis owes the state over $70,000 after an audit revealed that he had spent
over $170,000 worth of taxpayer money for personal items.
