Garrett Uekman foundation announces scholarship

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A foundation named for late Arkansas Razorbacks player Garrett Uekman (ECK'-men) is donating $100,000 for an endowed athletic department scholarship.

The 19-year-old was a redshirt freshman for the Razorbacks when he died Nov. 20 of a previously undetected heart condition.

The foundation says it will raise the $100,000 over the next five years.

Garrett Uekman's sister, Megan Uekman, says the foundation hopes to award the scholarship to a football player who's a tight end and former walk-on - just like her brother.

Uekman had a condition called cardiomyopathy, in which the heart becomes enlarged.
