Southwest Community College head basketball coach and athletic director Benjamin Rhodes confessed in U.S. District Court in Memphis to stealing more than $12,000 in social security disability payments from four people who passed away.
Rhodes faces five years in a federal prison.
Rhodes also confessed to actually concealing the death of one of those to keep collecting the checks.
He admitted in federal court he began the scheme in 2007 when he used rental properties and appointed guardianships to collect the checks.
Rhodes was named the community college's athletic director in 2011.
