Cleveland, MS -

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into whether a 20-year-old Cleveland, Mississippi, woman's death on Highway 61 was an accident or a homicide as a result of domestic abuse.

Initial police reports indicate Shelby Harmon, 20, was hit by a truck driven by her boyfriend and then hit again by two other cars on the highway.

"The male paramedic has known my daughter since she was two or three years old and didn't recognize her," says Shelby's mother, Angela Harmon.

Family and friends say the scene started at Shelby and her boyfriend's house where the two were involved in an argument that led Shelby to run and her boyfriend to chase her in his truck. Shelby's grandfather Jim Harmon says the boyfriend was taken into police custody but later released.

"I never trusted him. My gut instinct said he was trouble from the beginning and I told my daughter that," says Angela, "I've heard so much from her friends of him assaulting her, choking her, hitting her, dragging her by the hair on her head."

Angela says Shelby's remains were released to her shortly after and adds that officials told her they did not need to do an autopsy. After Shelby was cremated, Angela says, the coroner called her saying they needed the remains for an autopsy afterall.

At Wednesday night's funeral service for Shelby, Angela says her anger turned to peace after seeing more than 650 people show up to support Shelby and the family. But Angela says she still wants answers and justice for Shelby.
