Pike Co. juvenile center inspected

MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - The Southern Poverty Law Center will release the results of its inspection of the Pike County Juvenile Detention Center in about a week.

On Monday, five people from SPLC toured the juvenile center, which is located in the old McComb jail.

The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bitly.com/U39OJ6 ) the Southern Poverty Law Center serves as an advocate for inmates and has legal authority to inspect juvenile detention centers.

At a meeting on Wednesday, supervisors said they're not sure what will come out of the inspection, which took place after Jody E. Owens II, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Mississippi office, said SPLC had received complaints of unsanitary conditions and abuse.

Board attorney Wayne Dowdy said supervisors have been open and above-board with the SPLC.
