PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County School District officials are declaring their "Be Cool, Pack the School" day on Oct. 24 a success.
Student Services Director Wayne Folkes tells The Hattiesburg American (http://hatne.ws/SCWZTJ ) the goal was to have 100% of students at every single school that day.
Folkes says the district achieved a 97.4% attendance rate. 5 of the 13 schools had nine or fewer student absences.
He says Purvis Middle School managed to reach the 100% attendance rate when it counted in late arrivals.
Folkes said the high number of students at school on the day is good for the district and good for the students.
