Lorenzen Wright's 37th birthday celebrated with a party
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -
Nearly three years and still no sign of Lorenzen Wright's killer. It's been three years that his family celebrates his birthday at his grave site.
"I don't want nobody to forget him. If he had been living we would have all had a party together so I want to do some of the things we did when he was here. He's gone but I want to keep his memory alive," says Wright's mother Deborah Marion.
Wright's family and friend gathered at his headstone with balloons, sending them off in honor of his 37th birthday.
At one point, Marion whispered to Lorenzen, "'The crowd might get low but your mama's never going to stop. I'm never going to stop, regardless. I don't care if it's me and one camera person here, that's all, I'm going to be here.' I'm never going to stop because it's my first born child."
Along with the balloon send off, Marion says they do what they do what they would have done for his birthday if he were alive: Have a party.
"To eat and reminisce. I've got pictures of him over there, I'm going to bring books and they're going to ask something 'What was he doing at this age' and I'm just going to have a lot of stuff for them to reminisce on," says Marion.
Not only does Marion do something every year for Wright's birthday, she says, "I do something every week. Something every week if it's not nothing but calling somebody in law enforcement asking them things."
When it comes to celebrating Lorenzen, she says she's never going to stop. Marion says, "When you all see nothing going on out here, you all going to be saying, 'I guess Lorenzen's mom must have done died.'"
