In the movie A Christmas
Story a kid asks for a red Ryder B.B. gun.
Santa says you'll shoot your eye out kid, then says ho.ho.ho and shoves
the kid down the slide.
Part of what makes Christmas
Story hit home with so many people is most of us have been disappointed on Christmas
morning at least once, and we never forgot it.
For many it was that first big disappointment in life. Well that's what the 2012 Olympic Cares Toy Drive
is all about, preventing that first big disappointment for as many kids as
possible.
You now have until Dec the
10th to come by any Mapco store and bring a child's toy. Make sure it is in the box it came in and put
it in the box at the store, or you can drop off cash in the amount of 79.99 and
that will buy a brand new bike for a child this year for Christmas. You can do the same thing at three Cricket Wireless
locations in Memphis.
Bikes and other toys will
be distributed to deserving families on Thursday, December 13th. Parents
interested in receiving toys for their children up to age 14, should apply for
a voucher to participate in the toy drive. Applications are being taken at
Neighborhood Christian Centers. You can
call the NCC Toy Drive hotline at 901-881-6013.
Just think back to that one Christmas you got
that crummy pair of socks from Aunt Mini and that could be enough to move you
into heading on down to the closest Mapco store or Cricket Wireless store and
make Christmas happen for a little kid out there!
Wishing for a special Christmas. Earle Farrell
