Memphis
City Schools Receives Award for Efforts to Reduce Truancy
International Association of
Truancy and Dropout Prevention
Memphis, Tenn.
– Memphis
City Schools recently received an award from the International Association of
Truancy and Dropout Prevention. This award was presented to the MCS
Department of School Safety, Security, and Emergency Management as a result of
innovative efforts to reduce truancy. Over the last four years with
the assistance of our many partners including the Memphis Police Department,
Department of Human Services, The Shelby County District Attorney's Office and
Shelby County Juvenile Court, truancy has been reduced by 70 percent. The
creation of the Regional Truancy Centers, along with the dedicated work of
partner agencies and staff has been instrumental in this success.
