TSSAA Recognizes MCS Staff

A.F. Bridges Award

Memphis, Tenn. – TSSAA Regional Administrators recognized several Memphis City Schools staff and teams during an award luncheon in Jackson, TN on November 7, 2012. MCS recipients of the 2012 A.F. Bridges Award were: Ridgeway High School's Jim Long for Principal of the Year; White Station High School's Mark McDonald for Athletic  Director of the Year; Douglass High School's Elizabeth Marable for Female Coach of the Year; East High School's Sam Bachelor for Male Coach of the Year; Nicholas Owens, a teacher at Kingsbury High, for Official of the Year; and Hamilton High and Wooddale High were recognized for sportsmanship.

The A.F. Bridges Award recognizes 63 individuals from across the state that represent the best in high school athletics in each of the 9 athletic districts. It was expanded 13 years ago to include awards for School System Administrator of the Year, Principal of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year, Female Coach of the Year, Male Coach of the Year, Official of the Year, and Contributor of the Year. Nominations were made by a Citizenship/Sportsmanship Committee in each athletic district and the final selection was made by a State Selection Committee.
