
MCS to Host Annual Healthy Choices Week
The Memphis City Schools Office of Coordinated School Health will celebrate its eighth annual Healthy Choices Week November 26 through November 30. Healthy Choices Week is an awareness campaign designed to promote simple steps students can take to ensure they develop and make healthy choices that will carry far beyond the classroom. The district has partnered with various community organizations to assist in promoting healthy choices to students and the greater Memphis community. Schools throughout the district will participate in Healthy Choices Week. The week's events are as follows:

Regional Health Clinics to Host Open Houses For MCS Employees
The Memphis City Schools Regional Health Clinics will host an open house for all employees to highlight the services offered. Employees will be given free blood pressure checks and body mass index checks. The Regional Health Clinics are open and available to all MCS students (Pre K-12) Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and to all Memphis City Schools employees Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. To schedule appointments, please call (901) 531-6321.

U.S. Department of Agriculture to Honor Five Schools
Steve Hortin, Deputy Director of School & Family Nutrition with the United States Department of Agriculture, will visit Memphis on Wednesday, November 28, at 10 a.m., to honor five Memphis City Schools named as Healthy US School Challenge "Bronze Award" winners. These schools are receiving bronze awards based on the amount of physical education and physical activity that meets or exceeds national standards. The event will take place at Bellevue Middle School, 575 S. Bellevue. During the celebration, students will participate in a variety of activities including physical exercise demonstrations.

Memphis Grizzlies to Honor Bruce Elementary
On Thursday, November 29 at 9:40 a.m., the Memphis Grizzlies will honor Bruce Elementary School, its students and staff for making their school a healthier place to learn and work. Bruce Elementary School is a member of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools Program and recently earned a Bronze National Recognition Award from the Alliance. Bruce Elementary School was one of only 251 schools nationwide to earn the honor. Grizzlies' Forward Quincy Pondexter will tour classrooms and speak with students about nutrition and share fitness advice.
MCS to Host Annual Mid-South Tech Conference
Memphis City Schools is pleased to announce the 2012 Mid-South Technology Conference. Join us December 6-7, 2012 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee where you will connect with educational and information technology professionals in sharing new tools, techniques, products and strategies for integrating technology to enhance academics and operations in school districts. Participants will engage in demonstrations and interactive sessions pertaining to rich digital media, Web 2.0 tools and effective technology integration. In addition, technology vendors will interact with participants via the exhibit hall, where innovative technologies and cutting edge technology integration techniques will be demonstrated.
