LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe says he told the White House that states shouldn't carry a disproportionate amount of the burden as President Barack Obama and Congress work out spending cuts and tax hikes.
Beebe said Wednesday that he and five other governors spent 90 minutes with Obama and other officials to offer the states' perspective on fiscal cliff negotiations.
The delegation represented the National Governors Association and its stance that federal rules have to change if there are federal spending cuts.
Beebe says it would be wrong if the government cuts funding for programs while not relieving states of the responsibility for funding the programs.
House Republicans and the White House have been working to arrive at an agreement on tax revenue and reductions in spending on entitlements.
