CANTON, Miss. (AP) - Supports say a new 60-acre park in rural, northern Madison County will provide needed ball fields and walking trails while bringing in new area businesses to stimulate the local economy.

Opponents, however, say they're concerned about the cost to taxpayers, rural safety and flooding.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/ZvhSjk ) the Board of Supervisors says the benefits for the entire community east of Camden overcome any potential risks. After a public hearing Monday generating comments from both sides, the board agreed to file for a $1.5 million bank loan to begin work on the park site.

Robert Bilbrew, a resident of the nearby Farmhaven community, said the park will be a boon to the area because residents now have to drive far for recreation or retail outlets.
