BRANDON, Miss. (AP) - Rankin County Chancery Court will become the latest in the state to require electronic filing of court records as part of a yearslong effort to bring Mississippi's legal community into the digital age.

Beginning Feb. 4, Chancery County Clerk Larry Swales tells The Clarion-Ledger (http://on.thec-l.com/USnsuc) anyone filing civil court documents in Rankin County must scan and email them rather than bringing paper versions to the office, except for the first filing, which still requires a paper version.

The Mississippi Supreme Court began moving toward electronic filing in 2005, and the Madison County Chancery Court became the first to go digital three years later.

For attorneys unaccustomed to the process, Rankin County will hold two training sessions on Jan. 25 at Hinds Community College
