The Republic Sanitation workers started their strike on Monday. Some people knew about the strike, but not about the possible severe weather. With cleanup crews sitting out, clean streets may be a different story on Wednesday.

Mike Wiggins says he didn't expect Mother Nature to blow through during the Republic Sanitation worker strike, "I feel sad it happens with everybody but I just never thought about the storm coming in too, that's comical."

Forecasters expect thunderstorms and possible tornados Tuesday night. Before the severe weather, wind gusts could reach 40 miles per hour.

Driving through Germantown, it's easy to spot bins on standby for pickup. Since Monday's strike, 250,000 customers in Shelby County and North Mississippi are without trash pickup.

The 180 workers on strike hope their latest effort will inch them closer towards better pension and pay.  Republic Sanitation says the strike won't prevent trash pick-up Wednesday, but by then the twister may have struck too.

Republic Sanitation hopes to hammer out a deal with the workers Thursday.
