MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Police are investigating a shooting and a stabbing that lead to a local elementary school being placed on lockdown. No students were injured in the incident that happened outside Sherwood Elementary Thursday morning.

Police say it stemmed from a domestic disturbance. It started when a woman was dropping her kid off at school. A man pulled up and they started arguing.

The man was stabbed, then treated at the scene. He was not taken to the hospital.

But, police started hearing reports of a shooting. Early on in the investigation officers wouldn't confirm those reports, but parents were more than willing to speak out.

"All of a sudden we started hearing shooting and then we looked through the windows and we saw this man shooting around," claims Elda Salgado.

Salgado was signing her 5 year old into school and says she would've never imagined that would end with her hiding from a shooter. She says she watched the entire shooting through a school window.

James Pampley says his sister works inside the school, "She heard the gunshots"

He says his sister texted him in a panic as soon as it all happened, "She said that she's curled up, she's shaking, she's under the desk and she just needs me to call the police."

Pampley called police and rushed to the school where hundreds of parents were lined up, trying to take their kids home immediately.

It appears police spent the morning looking for a shooter and a shooting victim. There were several reports that someone was shot, but the only thing immediately confirmed was the stabbing.
