The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) is looking for a city interested in hosting the 2024 Olympics. Thirty-five (35) cities were sent letters to gauge their interest including Memphis, Nashville and St. Louis.

The USOC hasn't decided if it will pursue an Olympic hosting bid for the 2024 Olympics, but has started the decision making process.  The last two U.S. cities to make a bid for the Olympics were Chicago (2012) and New York (2016).  Both were eliminated early in the process despite spending $10 million on the bid.

The requirements for hosting the Olympics set a high bar that would most likely disqualify many of the cities on the list. Among the requirements: 45,000 hotel rooms, construction of a village to house 16,500 athletes, operations space for 15,000 media members, a workforce of 200,000 people an extensive public transportation network, and a price tag of $3 billion.

Salt Lake City was the last city in the U.S. to host the Olympics, hosting the winter games in 2002.

Cities that received the letter were Phoenix; San Jose, Calif.; Los Angeles; Sacramento; San Diego; San Francisco; Denver; Washington; Jacksonville, Fla.; Orlando, Fla.; Miami; Atlanta; Chicago; Indianapolis; Baltimore; Detroit; Minneapolis; St. Louis; Las Vegas; New York; Boston; Rochester; Charlotte, N.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Tulsa, Okla.; Portland, Ore.; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Memphis; Nashville and Davidson County; Austin, Tex.; Dallas; Houston; San Antonio; and Seattle.
