MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Memphis police are searching for two suspects who shot a 22-year-old man near a North Memphis daycare center.

The man, who was interning at the convenience store off North Hollywood, was shot several times and then robbed by two unknown assailants.

Police say the two men approached the victim in the parking lot and shot the man in the face and legs.

The victim was taken to The MED in critical condition.

The shooting took place next door to a daycare at around 10 a.m. The daycare went into lockdown for a period of time after the shooting.

Detectives were on the scene interviewing witnesses and searching for evidence.

"It's not right, it's not right, it's sad that this happened here," manager Tracie Morton said, who added the convenience store is an important part of the neighborhood. "I hope they find out who did it, I really do."

Police say the victim was interning at the store. He was learning the business in hopes of opening his own convenience store.

Neighbors say new owners bought the store months ago.

The suspects were described as two black males wearing black hoodies.
