WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (FOX13) -
An adult female's body was discovered Tuesday afternoon partially submerged in a ditch off Missouri Street in West Memphis near Worthington Park.
In a news release, West Memphis Police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South Worthington just before 1 p.m., on the report of a possible discovery of a body in the "10 Mile Bayou."
A body of a white female, between the ages 30-45, was found partially submerged in the water, police said. There were no visible signs of trauma, the news release said.
The body has been taken to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be performed.
"This investigation is obviously in its' early stages and we hope to have a positive identification very soon and make proper notification to the victim's family," said Capt. Ken Mitchell, CID Commander of the West Memphis Police Department.
The case remains under investigation.
