Meridian man charged in death of cousin

MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Meridian police have charged Rondarius Phillips with manslaughter in the shooting death of his cousin.

Police Chief James Reed says in a news release that Phillips was charged Tuesday in the death of 21-year-old Randarious Smith on Sept. 17. Reed says Phillips has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bond has been set at $250,000 for the manslaughter charge and $25,000 for the weapons charge.

Reed says officers found Smith lying on a city street after answering a call about a shooting. Smith was transported to Anderson's Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Reed says Smith was shot twice.

It was unclear whether Phillips has an attorney.
