GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Edwin smith passed away in 2010 during the prime of his life due to a sudden onset heart condition called "Viral Cardio-Myopathy"

Edwin's widow Susan is dedicated to honoring her husband's memory, "As a way to do something positive for the youth program…our Sunday school class decided to do a 5k."

The Sunday school class at Germantown United Methodist Church thought the 5k would be a great way to raise money for the church's student ministries program.

Now in its third year, organizers say they're ready for hundreds of walkers and runners to lace up their shoes for a great cause.

Susan Smith says honoring her husband has been a blessing, "It's been great…he'd laugh and say he wouldn't want his name on it…but it's been a great way to bring the community together for a good cause."

The Edwin's Way 5k is Sunday at 3pm in Germantown at Nashoba Park. To register, click here.
