Olive Branch optometrist Dr. David Parker is the newly elected senator for District 19, after DeSoto County voters went to the polls in Tuesday's runoff.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Former President George H.W. Bush was in a Houston hospital Thursday for continuing treatment of a lingering cough.
