In the aftermath of the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, the world has seen a community unite…

Not only for the sake of those whose lives were lost, but for the benefit of those individuals experiencing the unimaginable grief of losing children, friends, family members, and loves ones.

President Barack Obama visited the grieving families in Newtown, CT Sunday and delivered a poignant, heartfelt speech discussing loss, the importance of community, and how change of policy and a reconsideration of our own ideologies is imperative if we want to save even one life from being taken by similar means.

At the end of his speech, the President read aloud the names of the 20 children who were senselessly murdered during this weekend's massacre.

"We can't tolerate this anymore… in the coming weeks I'll use whatever power this office holds [in] preventing more tragedies like this.

We can't accept events like this as routine. Are we really prepared to say that we're powerless in the face of such carnage? That the politics are too hard?

And if we're honest with ourselves, the answer is, 'No.' We're not doing enough, and we will have to change.

We will be told that the causes of such violence are complex, and it is true. No single law, no set of laws can eliminate evil from the world or prevent every senseless act of violence in our society. But that can't be an excuse for inaction. Surely we can do better than this.

If there's even one step we can take to save one child, or one parent, or one town from the grief that has visited Tucson, and Aurora and Oak Creek and Newtown and communities from Columbine to Blacksburg before that, then surely we have an obligation to try."
