Now, after the fire has settled and the temperatures have cooled, authorities can confirm that a charred body was indeed found in the cabin believed to have been harboring "cop killer" Christopher Dorner.
News broke Tuesday afternoon of a chaotic showdown between law enforcement and the rogue ex-LAPD officer. After hours and hours of suspense, the cabin went up in flames, and many are believing the police started the fire after an alleged recording from a police scanner leaked, saying:
"All right, Steve, we're gonna go, er, we're gonna go forward with the plan, with, er, with the burn. We want it, er, like we talked about. […] Seven burners deployed and we have a fire."
And apparently news station KCAL picked audio up that recorded voices yelling:
"We're going to burn him out!"
"Burn this motherf*cker!"
But even with the fire, it is still unclear as to how the person — believed to be Dorner — died inside. A single gunshot was heard inside after police ordered the inhabitant to surrender.
So along with burning alive, theories to the suspect's death also include suicide.
Whatever officially caused the death, officials report that nobody escaped the cabin, and they do believe it was Dorner caught inside.
Forensics will further investigate to confirm the identity.
In the meantime, Southern California can rest somewhat at peace knowing this terrifying ordeal is likely over. After allegedly killing four in a campaign against the LAPD, it appears that manifesto-writing Christopher Dorner may finally be at peace.
And we can only hope the same for his victims. Our heart mourns for all of the friends and families involved in this chaotic incident…
