WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic lawmakers and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday that military-style assault weapons should be banned and that a national commission should be established to examine mass shootings in the United States.

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut state police say multiple 30-round magazines and hundreds of bullets found at elementary school where 26 were killed.

Calif. mall on lockdown after shots fired

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Police have taken a suspect into custody after shots were fired at a Southern California shopping mall, forcing a lockdown of stores. It did not appear anyone was hurt.

Newport Beach police Sgt. William Depweg said shots were fired in the area of a Macy's department store at the Fashion Island mall Saturday afternoon.
