Selena Gomez is seemingly not happy with some of the narratives that are being made out of one moment during the 2023 MTV VMAs involving Olivia Rodrigo.
If you don’t know, there have been a lot of rumors about Olivia and Taylor Swift in recent months, mainly, that there is some sort of feud going on. Olivia completely shut down any feud rumors this week, but that didn’t necessarily quiet the Internet chatter about it. If you don’t know, Taylor and Selena are best friends.
Now, Selena is seemingly involved. A meme was created and circulated of Selena covering one ear and looking a bit concerned during Olivia‘s performance at the show.
We’re breaking down everything that happened at the VMAs last night after Selena, Taylor, and Olivia were all in attendance.

At the end of Olivia‘s performance, loud bangs could be heard and she was rushed off stage.
Some audience members might have been concerned as they didn’t know this was a pre-planned part of the show. The performance was actually a recreation of Olivia‘s “Vampire” music video where the same exact thing happens.
However, MTV’s cameras panned to Selena during this moment and some were very focused on her facial expression and hand placement.
Her hand appeared to be covering her ears, and her face had a mild look of surprise.
Some tweets that were sent out included, “Selena Gomez covered her ears during Olivia Rodrigo’s #VMAs performance,” “Selena Gomez Reaction to Olivia Rodrigo Performance👀,” “Selena Gomez caught covering her ears during Olivia Rodrigo performance. 😬,” “Not Selena Gomez covering her ears during Olivia Rodrigo performance 😭,” and more.
Selena saw some talk on Instagram and left the following comment:
“I heard a loud noise and it scared me,” Selena said about all the talk in a comment left on Instagram.
But Selena wasn’t finished there.
She also left another message, seemingly about memes being made.
Selena then posted to her Instagram Story around the same time she left the previous comment.
Her Instagram Story read, “I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.”
We cannot say for sure this message was directed at all of the memes made out of Selena‘s face watching Olivia‘s performance, but fans are assuming it might be related.
