1951: Rob Halford is born in Warwickshire, England. Inspired by artists including Elvis Presley, Robert Plant, Janis Joplin and Little Richard, Halford began singing at an early age. 1961: Billy Ray Cyrus is born in Flatwoods, Kentucky. Cyrus left school to pursue a career in music. 2018: Daryl Hannah and Neil Young marry in California. The actress and Canadian singer-songwriter tied the knot in Atascadero, California, following an earlier intimate ceremony aboard Young’s yacht in Washington’s San Juan Islands. Hannah became stepmother to Young’s three children from previous relationships.

1970: Elton John makes his U.S. performance debut at The Troubadour. The then-little-known British singer and pianist took the stage at the legendary Los Angeles venue on August 25, 1970. 1993: Snoop Dogg is linked to a fatal gang shooting. Snoop Dogg was charged with murder after his passenger shot and killed a rival gang member in Los Angeles’ Woodbine Park. The rapper was acquitted of the charge in 1996.
2001: Aaliyah dies in a plane crash. R&B star Aaliyah was killed on August 25, 2001, along with eight others when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff in the Bahamas.
