30 Best Oreo Flavors, Ranked and Tested
We write about Oreos a lot here. Like, a lot a lot. But can you blame us? The classic cookie has been around longer than any of us have (since 1912!), and there are so many Oreo recipes and desserts out there that frankly, we’re surprised that we as a society haven’t caused a nationwide shortage. There are few things in the world more simple and versatile as an Oreo cookie and milk (yes, that includes all of the 85-plus flavors in the brand’s history), and it’s safe to say we’re just a little bit obsessed. Case in point, this giant Oreo cake, these Oreo truffles, this Oreo popcorn, and this Oreo cookie skillet. You get the idea.
It was only a matter of time before we turned around and said, “Have we ever tried them all in one sitting?” We hadn’t. So we did.
Of course, there were hiccups. Although so many Oreo flavors have emerged over the course of the cookie brand’s 110-year lifespan, some flavors are hard to find on shelves. Some seem to be discontinued. Others are only available overseas. Green tea Oreos, for instance, are only available in Japan. (But whyyyy?) That said, our editors are nothing if not intrepid, tracking down a whopping 30 Oreo varieties for an in-depth taste test.
Without further ado, here’s our worst-to-best ranking of every Oreo flavor we could get our hands on. Let us know if we missed any favorites!
OREO1
Birthday Cake Oreo
“Nope. This tastes like a birthday cake vomiting.” So, uh. Not our fav.
OREO2
Fudge-Dipped Oreo Thins Bites
A prettttty ideal snack for all those who like chocolate, mini things, and feeling vaguely ill after putting down an inevitable bag’s worth of this stuff.
OREO3
Oreo Mint Thins
The comparisons to a Thin Mint were inevitable, yet these drew less of a parallel than their larger counterpart (more on that cookie later). People enjoyed this cookie’s fresh crunch, but wanted even more mint flavor.
OREO4
Oreo Thins Bites
Again, here is where creme-to-cookie ratio became a subject of debate. Are the Thins Bites just too much cookie for too little creme? All signs point to yes. Might we suggest a Double Stuf Oreos Thins Bites?
OREO5
Chocolate Oreo Thins
“They’re fine,” was the overall feeling here. Good. Fine!
OREO6
Churro Oreo
Released as part of the mystery flavor Oreo contest, this cookie featured a churro-flavored creme. However, it didn’t knock anyone’s socks off.
OREO7
Chocolate Oreo
Infinitely less popular than the classic Oreo, even though it was one of the most straightforward flavors we tried. “It’s just kind of bland,” one tester noted.
OREO8
Peanut Butter Oreo
“More peanut butter flavor,” they cried. “More! Please!”
OREO9
Fudge-Dipped Mint Oreo Thins Bites
These would make great snacks if frozen, the crowd agreed. As room temperature bites, they were slightly less fun.
OREO10
White Fudge-Dipped Oreo Thins Bites
Despite a few enthusiasts, the consensus was that the white fudge was too overpowering and negated any solid crunch the bites may have had.
OREO11
Red Velvet Oreo
The staff found themselves divided at this pivotal cookie point. About half of Delish felt the cookie was artificial nonsense that needed more cream cheese oomph. The rest were delighted by its Dunkaroo-like smell and sweet, sweet flavor.
OREO12
Oreo Thins
Another few mentions of the word “perfect” here, but there were a few people who felt the classic Thin was a bit too dry.
OREO13
Mint Oreo
I present to you without further context the absolute best note from this entire test: “Like a thicker Thin Mint. A… Chunk Mint?”
OREO14
Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Oreo
An “A+” from all the Nutterbutter fans in the house.
OREO15
Spring Oreo
We all remain a little unclear as to what spring is (Yellow #5??), but we were not mad about it. It’s just a really yummy cookie with a bit of a neon streak.
OREO16
Dark Chocolate Oreo
This one was a big hit with those of our testers who claimed not to have much of a sweet tooth (who are these people). While some said they couldn’t tell that it was dark chocolate, they appreciated the cookie’s subtle sweetness.
17
Gingerbread Oreo
OREOThe Gingerbread Oreo with creme and crunchy sugar crystals was tasty enough to make Santa’s nice list.
OREO18
Golden Thins
People loved the creme-to-cookie ratio here. Magic!
OREO19
Fudge-Covered Oreo
This fudge-covered Oreo was immensely popular. It’s a “luxurious” cookie with with an alarming amount of chocolate. One taster’s suggestion? “LOVE. Although I wish it was half vanilla-dipped and half chocolate-dipped.”
OREO20
Carrot Cake Oreo
A delightful addition to the permanent flavor fam. Less artificial tasting than the birthday cake and red velvet varieties.
21
Caramel Coconut Oreo
OREOOf all the flavors that Oreo has gifted us, this one is all about the texture. The smooth caramel creme with coconut flakes is a combo to die for.
22
Apple Cider Donut Oreo
OREOSo, uh, if autumn had a taste, this definitely would be it. And we’re completely here for it.
OREO23
Mega Stuf Oreo
Hard to say when a lot of creme becomes too much creme, but the overwhelming consensus was more creme = better cookie.
OREO24
Oreo Pistachio Thins
A major favorite! All comments were in the “I can’t BELIEVE how much I loved this one” realm. Seriously, there were notes about how much Italian grandmothers (who are famously pistachio-loving) would adore them and pining over all the pistachio ice cream to come this summer.
25
Chromatica “Lady Gaga” Oreo
OREOTo be honest, there’s not much that Lady Gaga does that we don’t approve of, and these brightly colored Oreos are no exception. This limited-edition cookie was actually a Golden Oreo in disguise, but we couldn’t help but be tickled by the color.
OREO26
Golden Oreo
The classic Golden Oreo is a throwback to a better, simpler time. It’s a delicious alternative to the classic chocolate cookie, and in some people’s opinions, an even better everyday option.
OREO27
Most Stuf Oreo
This Oreo with by far the most feedback. The general consensus was that the Most Stuf cookie is a six-year-old’s dream come true, a glorious nostalgic, creme-filled bite. There was a party pooper or two who said things like “too much stuf,” but whatever.
OREO28
Oreo
“A staple,” “a classic,” “a sublime cookie,” they proclaimed. A caveat, though: needs milk for ultimate perfection.
OREO29
Lemon Oreo
Believe it or not, this pack of Lemon Oreos was the first to go in its entirety. There was not a single piece of criticism of the flavor—people delighted in these!
