Stella Lefty Reveals the Sweet Story Behind Her Breakout Hit “Boston”
Stella Lefty’s latest single, “Boston,” is quickly becoming one of the biggest breakout songs of the year, and now the 23-year-old singer-songwriter is sharing the heartfelt story that inspired the track.
The rising star’s emotional song, which interpolates Noah Kahan’s hit “Stick Season,” is expected to break into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 on the upcoming chart, marking another major milestone in her fast-rising career.
On the chorus, Stella sings:
“On a train back to Boston and we’re jumpin’ the gun / And I’m tellin’ you baby, ‘This the part where I’d run’ / But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stella revealed she first began writing “Boston” while waiting for her boyfriend, fellow musician Vincent Mason, to pick her up for one of their first dates.
“I thought, ‘I’ll just sit at the piano and see what happens,'” Stella said. “It did so well that I was honestly confused, because I didn’t really love the song yet. Then I was like, ‘I guess I need to finish it!'”
She also opened up about her lifelong love of country music and the doubts she once had about fitting into the genre.
“I love country music more than anything,” she said. “It’s just what I love with my f–king heart and soul. But I’m not Southern. I always worried, ‘Do I have to be?'”
With “Boston” continuing its impressive climb up the charts, Stella Lefty is proving that authenticity—and a song inspired by a simple moment before a date—can resonate with millions of listeners.

[Intro]
On a train back to Boston and we’re jumpin’ the gun
And I’m tellin’ you baby, “This the part where I’d run”
But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me
[Verse 1]
Well, there I was
Swearin’ I would never fall in love
All my inhibitions walked out the second
You said “What’s up?”
So, here we go
I’m throwin’ out the things I used to know
I hate to admit it but I guess I’m not better alone
[Chorus]
On a train back to Boston and we’re jumpin’ the gun
And I’m tellin’ you baby, “This the part where I’d run”
But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me
I don’t know where it’s goin’ but don’t wanna go back
And usually I’d leave right at the thought of that
But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me
[Verse 2]
Wakin’ up by your side
I see it when the mornin’ hits your eyes
You don’t want me to leave
Never knew I would be this along for the ride
Last month, you were just another someone
But now, we’re headin’ back to where you come from
[Chorus]
On a train back to Boston and we’re jumpin’ the gun
And I’m tellin’ you baby, “This the part where I’d run”
But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me
I don’t know where it’s goin’ but don’t wanna go back
And usually I’d leave right at the thought of that
But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me
[Post-Chorus]
I like it when you’re nice to me
I like it when you’re nice to me
[Outro]
On a train back to Boston and we’re jumpin’ the gun
And I’m tellin’ you baby, “This the part where I’d run”
But I like it when you’re nice, like it when you’re nice to me
